GREATER HOUSTON QUARTER HORSE ASSOCIATION (GHQHA) RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR YEAR END AWARDS

(Revised April, 2008)

PURPOSE:  To stimulate interest and encourage participation in area Quarter Horse shows through an effective annual high-point program that recognizes horses owned by qualified GHQHA members competing in the Greater Houston area shows.

RULES:

A.  In order to be eligible for a year-end award, the following requirements must be met:

            1.  A resident member (one who lives within a 75-mile radius of the Houston City Courthouse) must attend at least two (2) general membership meetings held by GHQHA during the year the member is qualifying to win an award.

Note:  Attendance credit for the membership meetings is based on a member signing the meeting register or sign-in sheet.  This is the only official attendance record.  There are at least six (6) general membership meetings per year.  General meetings may also be held at our Spring Show and/or the Fall/Winter Open Show, clinics and social events.  These meetings can be used to substitute towards the above requirements.

            2.  A member must obtain sponsorships for GHQHA sponsored shows or clinics equaling $100 during the year in which the member is qualifying to win an award.

            3.  A member must be “in good standing” which means membership dues must be current and the member cannot owe the association money.  Members may earn points only after payment of current year dues.  Dues must be paid to the GHQHA secretary, and the postmark applies as the date of membership activation.

            4.  A member’s horse must have placed and received GHQHA points in at least ten (10) GHQHA approved shows in an individual class.  To clarify, one show equals one judge, so a double-judged show would qualify as 2 separate shows – one for each judge.  (Awards can be won in each class recognized by AQHA).  NOTE:  GHQHA approved shows include all AQHA approved shows in Texas which are within a 250-mile radius of the Houston City Courthouse.  The list of approved shows may be amended by the GHQHA Board, with action taken on the show not less than thirty (30) days prior to the show.

            5.  A member is solely responsible for obtaining an original (no FAX copies accepted) AQHA printout of their show record and submitting it to the GHQHA secretary by January 31st (postmark) for the year end tabulation.  (However, if the AQHA has not posted final results of all eligible shows as of January 31 of the following year, the deadline will be extended to submitting the report within 10 following final posting of all eligible shows).  A computer printout showing the year-end summary for each horse is required.  This report can be printed from the AQHA members’ website or can be ordered from the AQHA.

NOTE:  It is recommended the members send its AQHA printouts to the GHQHA secretary by certified mail.  Currently the following address should be used:

                                                            GHQHA

                                                            c/o Karen Cooper

                                                            503 Green Belt Drive

                                                            Sugar Land, TX 77478

B.  POINTS:

            1.  Awards will be given in each class recognized by AQHA, provided a horse has placed and received GHQHA points in at least ten (10) GHQHA approved shows in that class.  NOTE:  Even though combined classes may be offered, such as Poles All Ages, rather than Junior Poles and Senior Poles, or Amateur Senior Stallions, rather than Amateur Three Year Old Stallions, points and credit toward the ten (10) show requirement will be given to all horses in their specific classes.  No horse may receive more than one award per class.  (Example:  If a senior horse is recognized as Open Western Pleasure winner, that horse will be recognized as Senior Western Pleasure Winner, and receive only one (1)award.)  This rule does not prevent the same horse from receiving awards in other classes such as Trail or Amateur Pleasure.

            2.  GHQHA points will be awarded on the following basis.

3.  GHQHA points will be awarded only for the official AQHA placings.  Also, no GHQHA points will be awarded for the Grand and Reserve if there are less than three (3) total horses in the sex category, as AQHA does not record champions in this case.

4.  TIE BREAKER:  In the event there is a tie in the point accumulations, the horse with the most firsts will be declared the winner of the award.  In the event a tie still exists, the horse with the most 2nds, 3rds, etc. will be declared the year-end winner.

5.  Point year is from January 1st through December 31st.

C.  HIGH POINT AWARDS:

1.  High Point Amateur Award will be given to the highest point earning qualified amateur exhibitor and horse team receiving GHQHA points in at least three (3) different AQHA Amateur classes, in at least ten (10) GHQHA approved shows.

2.  High Point Open Horse Award will be given to the highest point earning qualified horse receiving GHQHA points in at least three (3) different AQHA Open classes, in at least ten (10) GHQHA approved shows.

3.  High Point Youth Award will be given to the highest point earning qualified youth exhibitor and horse team receiving GHQHA points in at least three (3) different AQHA Youth classes, in at least ten (10) GHQHA approved shows.  Youth winners of more than one (1) event will only receive a combined award.

D.  Grand Champions:  Of the horses qualifying for a halter award, the horse earning the most halter points in each of the six (6) AQHA sex categories will be recognized as the GHQHA Champion for the sex category.  Example:  GHQHA Champion Halter Stallion, or GHQHA Champion Amateur Halter Mare.  The champions will receive only one award, they will not receive an additional award for that specific class.

E.  Horses whose ownership is transferred from one GHQHA member to another retains GHQHA points for the year.  For year end awards, a horse will be considered as having been owned by the year end owner for the full year.  NOTE:  Amateur and youth points are for the horse and rider team, therefore, this rule would not apply.

F.  All AQHA rules and regulations apply except as specifically noted above.
